Happy Healthcare Career Days, Macon County!
Healthcare Career Days are celebrated annually in Decatur and Macon County and first started in 2019.
During April 26 and April 28, 2022, local middle school and high school students will experience a plethora of opportunities that are available to them in the healthcare sector. The event is held at Richland Community College.
Over the next ten years, approximately 1,500 jobs in Macon County alone will need to be filled according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Center for Economic Studies. One of the major purposes of Healthcare Career Days is to help expose possibilities to the next generation of healthcare workers.

Training and Careers in Healthcare
Interested in exploring careers in healthcare? You’re in luck! Macon County has 196 healthcare employers and employs nearly 7,000 people. On average, a registered nurse makes $34.63 an hour in Macon County which is $9.32 above the national average. We have good paying jobs with excellent training and educational opportunities. An agreement between Millikin University (MU) and Richland Community College (RCC) will allow RCC nursing graduates to seamlessly transfer to MU to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The RN-BSN Dual Admission Program is designed to ensure the transfer of credits between the Associate in Applied Science in Nursing at RCC to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion program at MU.

Through a $3.2 million grant from the Decatur Memorial Foundation, Richland Community College’s nursing and clinical programs will expand over the next four years, as both organizations address the unprecedented shortage of nurses and other health professionals in the area. Through this collaboration, Decatur Memorial Hospital and RCC plan to triple the number of qualified students applying for enrollment into the college’s nursing and healthcare professional programs.
